SEO optimisation – what is it ? It’s taken me 6 months to understand the difference between an attractive website and a website that works for you because people can find it.
But how do people find your website? They don’t find it because it is attractive, clearly written or full of moving images.
They find it because they’ve put keywords into a search engine and hope that
Google or Yahoo will bring up exactly what they needed, on the first page. How can we get our serviced office noticed amongst the huge competition out there? We need web support Perth.
With the plethora of websites, the list of search results are getting longer and longer. Daunted by this, people are becoming search-savvy and more specific in their requests. If you need to find a local shop or local service you add the city name to the search - if you want a certain product type or brand, you add these words to your search. Who has the time to plough through 25-100 pages of website suggestions to find the solution to their problem?
Making it even more tedious is the fact that the top sections of the search results pages are now taken up with paid advertisements – giving less room for the number of search results on each page.
Once the visitor finds you only THEN will the attractiveness or relevance of your site work its magic. How do they find you – how do you get your site on the first page of the results ? That’s the $million question and SEO specialists who produce excellent results are in demand.
Making it easy for people to find you is what they call “SEO” or search engine optimisation… ie: optimising your chances of being found by searchers. Website Design and Search Engine Optimisation are two entirely different services and specialties. Make sure you know the difference when you are engaging website consultants. You’ll need both for website success.
Even if you don’t understand it, the great thing about SEO services is that you can immediately see if they are working …. by increased hits on your site, in a short time.
Remember that visitors won’t be able to find your beautiful house if you have no pathways to bring them to the door.

Hi Julia,
I agree with you. By just having a website doesn’t mean you’ll be found. You need to make your website findable – visible. SEO enables that.
Now that you’ve seen and understand how the SEO professionals work, you will appreciate how a website that isn’t optimised for the search engines stands virtually no chance of being found at all, while the competition are using automated tools to spread back-links to their websites in the hundreds if not thousands.
It’s almost not worth having a website at all, if it’s not optimised for the search engine.

We need training sessions on this – how about we organise a Ben Wan training on SEO skills, at Swanbourne Business Centre – sometime soon ? Julia
Well done Julia. the business and business network you are building are going to create an even stronger community in this precinct. This apart from the environmental issues facing the way we develop our offices and work places, is at the hub of sustainability. We need to create more business action around railway and transport nodes as well as increase the density of residential living. everyone wins
We make such precincts more viable and lively as well as safer from criminal activity. Having a great informative website is an integral part of these initiatives. with ben Wan on the job I am confident that Swanbourne Village will eventually become a jewel in the crown for the Town of Cottesloe, or rather in the future the ‘City of Greater Cottesloe?’ Growing this precinct over decades based on evolving need and community development is much better than the developer “Subi Centro” mono culture/big developer approach. Just look at railways station precincts developed around Melbourne. They evolved naturally over a 100 years, not some quick buck opportunity for some large development company with no stakeholdership in the area.
Thanks. I know your vision for the area would create a vibrant community. Living and working close to amenities and train transport bring benefits I had not imagined before I moved here. Swanbourne has a strong local identity, supported by the excellent retailers in the area. Business e-networking is a workable idea for us.
Julia, I am well aware how important SEO is for websites, but there is a lot to learn and I would appreciate seeing advice about this skill on your blog. At the moment I would have more knowledge and skills about social media. All the best Rosemary

Hi Rosemary, Will do. It’s such a huge subject sometimes you just don’t know where to start. But it’s worth just having one or two instructions at a time, to activate and test….then move on. Otherwise we get frozen by overwhelm.
Nice hearing from you. I worked a little on the password site – clicked through from your blog. am testing it and know its something I need. thanks. Julia
